I'm still somewhat early in the game but from what I'm already seeing I could safely say I really like it. The female protag looks like she'll grow into a badass and the setting and lore is already so interesting. The guys are kind of standard issue, but in particular the heroine stands out. She's a lot more proactive than the usual otome heroine and that is nice to see. She doesn't wait around for other people to make decisions for her and has a very strong personality that I like.Otherwise, the art is pretty and the music is very nice.. Ulrik's hatred makes me want him more.. Y'know, the beginning was not bad actually. The mc was cliche, but also fun. She made me like the game at first.Then why did i stopped playing this game? well, its just for one reason; there's this one scene that happened in the game...(I haven't played that much, so if you don't mind taking spoilers from the first couple hours of the game, be my guest.)Our MC basically loves justice. This MC and her comrade are going into the prison for some reason.Even though i say its a prison, its actually a town for prisoners. They are being watched 24/24 and will get killed if they will do something unnecessary. Now, there's this one guardian of this place, that meets with our MC. He's quite edgy and talks stuff like "we're so edgy and nobody can argue with us we're the bezt." His mission is showing the way where the MC was supposed to go.Everything is cool, y'know. They walk around and stuff. Apparently only criminals lives in the town, since its a prison for them. But suddenly...-"Ah, i'm sorry...!"A cute potato kid accidently bumps into the mc when she was walking! Oh My Flowers, what a coinsidence! In a town where criminals lives, this one pure kid bumps into our MC! So i thought, "oh i get it. He stole MC's wallet or something like that. I bet the guardian will notice it and our mc will be like 'wait why, hes a childd why did u do dhaddtt'...I predicted that, and i was alright if that would be the case.The guardian hurt the child with his sword and said "how dare you, hurting her! You garbage, don't run agan, do you wanna die? huh?" My wallet theory was way better than his excuse, and you know it. At this point, i got the fact this guardian was just a pitiful garbage, so that was that. But wait...Our MC takes her sword and says "put your sword back or ill fight with you," says when it felt like he would do that anway.These two are supposed to be comrades as you would expect, but when the guy accepts her and they start fighthing, you got the point of this game already."oooh lets forget about the logic and just care about our cool looking guyssssssssss..."I explained in a weird and goofy way, but i think you would get annoyed even more if i would explain it normally/while giving more details. Listen. I don't care if a visual novel doesn't cares about its story but only cares about its characters. But when you show this sort of obviously way too stupid kind of thing on my face, i just can't. I am sure there will be some good stuff to like if i will go on, but i just.. just no. Maybe later, maybe one day...i don't know.. I played 1 route so far which took me roughly 12 hours to complete. As I can see there are 5 different endings for each character (6 for 1 of them) so it will be interesting to see what causes them. (Probably the level of affection) I was 2 choices short of getting the best ending for one of the characters.I love the MC in this game. She's a strong, skilled swordsman who can hold her own against the male characters who belittle her throughout the game. From what I have seen, the game takes place in a setting where women aren't taken as seriously and seen as incapable of working along side men.Character Spoiler:What I did find really interesting was that when I started a second playthrough, I was able to see more of Fin's pov's and what he went through to get where he is. I'm not sure if this depends on choices or because it was a second run. Either way I am glad I did not see these extra scenes in my first playthrough as it would have ruined the surprise for me. This made me feel much more for the tragic character and his struggles. It was hard to hate him after learning of what he went through.Overall I'm pleased and the game's length is very satisfying. The art is beautiful and the voice acting is on point.. Steam Prison is probably among my top 5 otoge games of all time. I have played various dating sims from ones mixed with other genres to mobile ones. I feel like this game has been able to give me what I had expected and more.First off, if you like otome games, but are triggered by some things, make sure that you are aware that this game contains-- abuse, descriptions of dismembering, stabbing, and the like, implied♥♥♥♥♥♥ and more. It's something to take note of because the abuse and descriptions of intense violence happen in almost all routes. If you are fine with that, I think you can make it through Steam Prison with no problems.At first I wasn't sure how I was going to take some of the characters, but all the main guys except for one managed to win my heart in one way or another by the end of clearing all their endings. I even like the main character that you play as, Cyrus. She's strong and is able to stand up for herself-- the fact that she isn't a blank-slate MC made me so happy. The art is wonderful and the voices are excellent as well. I think that the world-building is done pretty well and it's easy to understand why the Depths and the Heights developed so differently after 400 years by the time you finish the game. If you manage to get through all the endings for all the routes, you unlock the Grand Ending route which wraps up things nicely.The only thing that I found negative about the game a bit was the music. There's only 30 songs total in the track, so it can get a little repetitive, but overall I liked the music, so it didn't bother me.Over all I would strongly recommend anyone who is looking for an otoge that contains adult characters rather than teenagers and is looking for something a bit more serious than a high school romance.
